While accompanying our important Dutch client to China, I got to see some very interestng places - areas surrounding the cities of Turpan and Urumqi where motor races were taking place. It was the Paris to Dakar Rally which, in that year, was being raced on a route from St. Petersburg to Peking. The Turpan Depression (154 m below sea level) is the second lowest point on the Earth's surface with temperatures reaching scorching 50°C. Thanks to the totally dry climate the seething temperatures were a lot more manageable than would appear at first glance. FOTO
